The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance 13th Annual Power is Teal Conference just wrapped up. This Annual Conference is the largest ovarian cancer-specific conference in the country that brings together researchers, clinicians, survivors and caregivers to learn about the latest developments in diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.

CauseKeepers had the opportunity to spend a few days in our Nation's Capitol.  The table we had set up did really well.  The biggest hit was the teal ribbon silly bands.  We could hardly keep them on the table.  It wasn't all work though...we were able to mix in a little pleasure with business, did a little sight seeing, took in all that Washington DC has to offer, even went to a Nationals baseball game.

"Dad Life" Video - Viral Videos With a Positive Message

One of the best ways to market yourself in today's world is putting together a good viral video.  Well, you can't actually make a viral video, you can only make a video and hope it goes viral.  Wikipedia says "A viral video is one that becomes popular through the process of internet sharing, typically through video sharing websites and email."

Church On The Move in Tulsa, OK. put together this video and you can see why it went viral.  It pokes fun at the stereotypical suburban dad's life, while conveying a positive message and emphasizing the importance of family values.  All while making your sides hurt from laughing so hard.

Viral videos are an unpredictable yet valuable tool.  If your video content is good enough to make someone say "check this out, you gotta see this", then chances are you've got a good shot at your video going viral.  Then, when you add a positive message to the video it makes it even that much more enjoyable.

Do you have an idea for a great viral video?  Post your ideas in the comment section below.  Or make your own video and share it with us.

CauseKeepers just returned from a short "ride-along" if you will, with The Zac Brown Band.  Zac Brown has teamed up with Dodge Ram Trucks, Soldiers' Angels, and CauseKeepers to run a very special initiative called "Letters For Lyrics".  Zac has been a big supporter of our Nation's Troops and partnering up with Soldiers' Angels was a great way to reach out to our heroes overseas and tell them we love them and thank them for their sacrifice.

Here's how it worked.  We had a booth set up at the Zac Brown Band concert.  At our booth we had hundreds of thousands of blank post cards.  Also at the booth was the unreleased Breaking Southern Ground CD by the Zac Brown Band.  You could get one of these brand new CDs for free.  All you had to do was take a blank post card, write a letter to the troops, and drop it in the box at the booth.  If you did that, you got a free CD.  Soldeirs' Angels would then take those letters and include them in the 10,000+ care packages sent out every week.  Eventually that letter would end up in the hands of one of our brave, self-sacrificing U.S. Soldiers overseas.

The Zac Brown Band has been doing this at almost all of their tour stops across the United States and so far they have collected over 300,000 letters for the U.S. Soldiers.  CauseKeepers was fortunate enough to be a part of two of these concert tour stops.  The first one was in Danville, VA.  The Danville show was a blast but it was incredibly hot.  We collected almost 1,400 letters for the troops and the Zac Brown Band put on an amazing show.  The second stop for CauseKeepers was Kingsport, TN.  The weather was much more enjoyable in TN and the crowd really got into the Letters For Lyrics campaign.  We collected almost 2,000 letters at this show AND...I don’t know how they did it, but the Zac Brown Band put on an even better show than the last.

The highlight of this mini-tour was getting to meet the Zac Brown Band in person and spend some time hanging out with them.  They are just good ole' southern boys enjoying their time with their fans while making a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of U.S. Troops.  All while rocking out to some great music.  We were able to share some of Zac's special BBQ recipe before the show, which was delicious.  And the band was even nice enough to give us an autographed picture.  Working with Letters For Lyrics was a privelage and we were able to see just how much work goes into all of this.  However, our small sacrifice of working late, and standing on our feet for a few hours pales in comparison to the sacrifice the troops are making for us everyday, so we can enjoy our freedom.  Freedom isn’t free.

CauseKeepers would like to say thanks to the Zac Brown Band and to Soldiers' Angels for allowing us to be a part of this "Letters For Lyrics" campaign.  Thank you to all the fans out there who have written a letter to one of our soldiers.  And thank you to our brave U.S. Troops!  God bless you and your families, and God bless America.

Power Is Teal

CauseKeepers is headed to our Nation's Capital for the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance annual Power Is Teal conference.  OCNA has been a wonderful partner with CauseKeepers for many years and we are very excited to be a part of this year's conference.

For the past twelve years, the Power Is Teal Conference has been the national epicenter for researchers, clinicians, survivors and friends to come together and learn from one another about how to improve diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.  Each year more voices are added.  Each year, more information is shared.  Each year, we move that much closer to saving women's lives, together.
Now in its thirteenth year, the theme of the Annual Conference is Power is Teal. It is an affirmation that we are being seen and heard from coast to coast, and from laboratories to legislatures. Since the founding of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, the focus has been to bring the issues surrounding this deadly disease to the attention of law makers; to increase funding for medical and scientific research; and to increase awareness about the symptoms of ovarian cancer so that more women and their doctors will know how to identify it in the early stages, when survival is highest. This year, the Power is Teal Conference will be held July 10-13, 2010 in Washington, DC.

As we all know, the political arena is beset with many challenges and distractions. Speakers at the Conference will discuss how health-care reform affects the ovarian cancer community and why now, perhaps more than any previous time, our voices need to be heard. You will hear why and how we need to remind our legislators that lives are at stake and our battle against this deadly disease has not yet been won.
Our weapons are our stories and the courage to speak up on Advocacy Day to let Congress and the Administration know we will not allow our cause to be silenced. This year's Power Is Teal Conference is an opportunity to come together as one voice with many stories, one voice with many lives. This is our way of flexing our collective muscles and making a difference for women.

Please join CauseKeepers and OCNA in the Nation's Capitol this July 10-13 as we work together to further this cause. Click on the image below and get your own Power Is Teal t-shirt to help support OCNA and to "Make Your Passion Known".
